Yuri Solo at Stone Pony

YURI TURCHYN has had a highly visible career as a featured premier performer including starting as a founding member of the country rock band, Kinderhook. He went on to play Irish folk music in Trinity II, progressive music with Bombay and The World then forming his own alternative sound in Now Voyager before fusing his Latin jazz quintet Yuri Turchyn+GRUPO YURI, a blend of Latin, Jazz and World Beat sounds.

Trumpets Jazz Club

Since its inception, Yuri Turchyn+GRUPO YURI performed at world-class jazz festivals, regional concerts and A-list clubs throughout New Jersey including Red Bank Jazz and Blues Festival, Point Pleasant Jazz Festival, Trumpets, Montclair; Sweet Sounds of Downtown Jazz Series, Westfield; South Orange Performing Arts Center; Burgdorff Cultural Center, Maplewood; Galeria West Art Gallery, Westfield; Tim McLoone’s Supper Club in Asbury Park;  Roselle Summer Concert Series; Downtown Cafe, Red Bank; Giamano’s Jazz and Blues Club, Bradley Beach, Chico’s House of Jazz, Asbury Park.

Throughout the years, he has contributed to the homegrown New Jersey music scene for over four decades. His electric violin can be on heard on NJ Material CD with New Jersey musicians, during a CD release party performance at The Bitter End in New York City and as part of the New Jersey Superstars, performing at the Sandy Hook and Garden State Arts Center benefits for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

In the last six years, he performed in a music tribute to Bob Dylan’s birthday “Bobfest” with Pat Guadagno & Tired Horses at the Count Basie Theater in red Bank, New Jersey.

Yuri Turchyn Glimmer Grass Band

Also know as Yuri, “the Professor” Turchyn rekindles Americana roots music with blue grass/jam grass, Glimmer Grass Band taking tunes to new heights, twists, turns, mixing in New Country and Minor Swing along the way. His contributions in music arrangements and vocals are reminiscent of the three part harmonies his singing enhanced through out the years. Recent full house performances at the Strand Theater and Spring Lake Theaters along with the local venues at the Jersey Shore music scene in Manasquan and Brielle as well as the Wonder Bar, Stone Pony and the Saint in Asbury Park.

Traveling several times to Orvieto and throughout Northern Umbria, Italy, including a guest artist appearance at the Umbria Folk Festival, Yuri performs with the renowned acoustic guitar trio BARTENDER, playing fiddle to the gypsy jazz swing of Django Rheinhardt, original arrangements calling up the sounds of Stepane Grapelli, Afro Cuban, Mediteranean and Bruce Springsteen euro style.

As a seasoned musician and SESSION PLAYER, he performed on Roger Gardella’s studio album, George Simonovich, When Realities Become Dreams, compilation CD Juntamente and Vida Y Amor release with Joanne Martinez and Paulo Pinho, both Teatro Si Productions that he had produced.
